Appearances Matter

The wisdom of God amazes me. When God sent Christ into the world think about how that happened. Jesus was born to common people, not in a palace. He lived in humble surroundings, not as a prince like Moses. There was nothing about Jesus to make him worthy of honor. He did not stand out in a crowd except among his followers. And Jesus died on a common cross with common men.

Because Jesus lived as he did it makes him relatable and accessible to common people of all time. Only the rich and the powerful stumble at this. The 99% of humanity rejoices in God's love and grace. The 1% live as kings and die in their sins. In eternity all will be set right. Can the rich elites get saved? Jesus said it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle; but with God, all things are possible.

The Bible does not condemn wealth. But it warns us against the perils of excessive riches.

"No one can serve two masters...you cannot serve God and mammon." Matthew 6:24

Pastor Mitchell could have lived a more lavish lifestyle, but he chose not to. And he was a giver in many ways. So pastor Wayman Mitchell gives us a pattern that we can follow also.

Remember the rich young ruler?
