"Then Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there; and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead. However, when the disciples gathered around him, he rose up..." Acts 14:19-20.
Things happen to us in life that can, if not actually kill us, leave us as good as dead. The death of a loved one, the loss of a career, failure in ministry, all can wreck havoc on our emotions and our spirits. But look what happened in the text. The crowd thought they had killed Paul. His friends came to see how he was. No one spoke or even prayed. They just surrounded him. And God raised Paul up.
We have no idea how little it takes to help someone in their darkest hour. We might be the only thing standing between them and utter collapse and failure and despair. We hold back the very thing that the damaged person needs because we don't think it will help.
You do not need to know all of the answers to their problems. But you do have to invest in their care even if it is just to be there with them without speaking at all.
In the end, only God can do what needs to be done.
Make the call, send the text, pay a visit. Do something for those beaten and weary and left for dead.
