A Tale Of Two Preachers

Where I used to live, the post conference Sunday ministry was usually given by a guy who had been at conference all week and was excited to get back at it wherever he was ministering. We were all bone tired, but he was excited.

This morning we had one of our missionaries preach for us. He is a successful missionary. He is doing good work where we sent him. But when he preached for us this morning he had no zeal, no fire, and it seemed that all he had was his personal testimony of how the Lord saved him years ago. He had a three point testimony and nothing more. It was hard for me to keep my eyes open. Theology 101 didn't help at all.

This evening we had a native pastor who preached with fire and enthusiasm and he seemed to be stirred by what he had experienced all week. He preached a good sermon like a pastor should. It was put together well, and for a non native English speaker, he was easy to follow and to understand. I had no trouble staying awake for him!

The mother church, who puts on a conference, is tired out by the time it is over. But it doesn't mean that we cannot be stirred by a word preached with some fire and that truly ministers. We needed it Sunday morning, we got it Sunday evening. Thank God!

"And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto you were not able to bear it, neither yet now are you able." 1Corinthians 3:1-2

I went to church Sunday morning looking for a steak, and I was given baby formula instead. No thanks.
