Overcoming Fear

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." 2Tim.1:7

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love." 1John 4:18

"Fear not" is a common phrase in the Bible. Over and over God has to remind us or encourage us not to be fearful or afraid. What are we afraid of? Sickness and disease. Financial difficulty. We fear change of any kind. We can fear the future. We can fear a storm. We can fear an election. We all have fears that we deal with, usually not all at once, but often one after another.

Paul says that fear is a spirit. It is an evil, unclean spirit. And, being a spirit, it can be cast out in Jesus' name! John says the fear brings torment. He says that love conquers fear. So in all cases, fear is an unwelcome guest in our born again lives.

You can deal with fear yourself. If your fear is too strong for you, we have pastors who can help you and pray for you. The key to victory over a fear is of course God.

"Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. ..." James 4:7-8

Maranatha!

One last thought. Get rid of your TV and you will cut of a source of all kinds of fear masquerading as news.
