Faith: An Action Word.

"But he said to them, why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey him?" Mark4:40-41

I see two things in this story.

First, there is Christ. He was there, even though he was exhausted and sleeping. Christ was fully Divine, and fully human. Who is this man was the question that the disciples had.

Here is your theology lesson for today. The ark of the covenant was a wooden box overlaid with pure gold inside and out. In that box there were the two stone tablets on which God wrote the Law. Jesus is seen in the ark; humanity overlaid with Divinity, containing the word made flesh.

Second, there is the lack of faith. Jesus was surprised that his guys had no faith. The lack of faith produced fear. God expects us to do our part and He forbids us from doing His part. Calming the storm was their part. Actually making it happen was God's part. If they had said, peace, be still, the storm would have stopped.

We never see the apostles acting like this after Pentecost. The Holy Spirit is not someone to pray to. The Spirit is God at work in the earth. The Holy Spirit helps us do our part.

Faith is an action word. It is evident only when we do something. Praying, preaching, giving, etc.

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." Hebrews13:8
