Manna and Money

This morning in my daily Bible reading I read about when the manna first appeared. In that time words were spoken that apply to us today.

"So when they had measured it by omers, he who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack. Every man had gathered according to each one's need." Exodus 16:18

In this unique time God had made provision for the people by providing manna. It was not a time to get rich. It was not a time to set by for the future. It was enough for that day. And it is interesting that, no matter how much they scooped up, it measured out to be just enough for that family for that day.

There is a pattern here that can apply to us today who walk by faith and not by sight. We are not like those who spend their lives gathering up as much as they can. The Bible does not condemn wealth until we set our riches above God and make money an idol. We judge from scripture that what we dedicate the first and the best of our time, our talent, and our money to, is our God.

Jesus teaches us that when we pray, to ask the Lord to give us enough.

"Give us this day our daily bread." Matthew 6:11

No doubt Jesus had the manna in mind when he said this.

God makes provision for us in good times and in bad times. Let us not be like the gentiles who have no hope.
